Xtend-a-Slide™ Plus slide and film conversion system
now you can easily convert your 35mm slides and photo negatives into digital images

Please Note: Unfortunately, due to escalating manufacturing costs, the Xtend-a-Slide is no longer available. Additional carriers ARE available. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment.

If you've got boxes of great 35mm slides just packed away, and you'd like to put those slides on CD, convert negatives to photos or make prints from slides, then the Xtend-a-Slide Plus is just what you're looking for. The Xtend-a-Slide makes copying slides as easy as taking pictures! The same goes for 35mm film negatives and glass-mounted slides as well! You only need a compatible digital camera setup, a light source, and some time.
Used in conjunction with your digital camera, an Xtend-a-Lens or other lens adapter and (if needed) appropriate stepping rings to get to the 49mm thread on the focusing barrel of the Xtend-a-Slide Plus, and a set of close-up lenses (+1,+2, and +4 or the +10 macro lens), Xtend-a-Slide Plus allows you to easily copy your 35mm slides, film or negatives at a resolution of 1000 to 2000 dpi or more (depending on the resolution of your camera). A 6 Megapixel camera, for example, will give you 2000 dpi! This is great for viewing and you can print them too!
The Xtend-a-Slide Plus connects to a large number of digital cameras. Just click on a manufacturer below to go directly to a manufacturer's compatibility table...

In fact, generally speaking, if you can connect filters or lenses to the front of your digital camera either with threads that are built-in to the lens or through a lens adapter like the Xtend-a-Lens, then the Xtend-a-Slide Plus will probably work on your camera. Note that the latest Xtend-a-Lens OMNI will fit nearly any compact camera and provides 37mm threads.

The 3 inner and 3 outer all-aluminum barrels of the Xtend-a-Slide are modular and they telescope so a wide variety of different lengths can be achieved, allowing for a focus distance from about 1.0 inch to approximately 5.0 inches. You may need close-up lenses to get your camera to focus in that range, but many cameras can use their macro or close-up facility to get within that range as well. It's a great lower cost solution to expensive slide scanners and flat bed scanners with slide attachments!

What's the set-up?
Every digital camera is a bit different in how it attaches to the Xtend-a-Slide. On the right, there's a generic picture of the typical setup with camera, camera lens adapter, stepping rings, closeup lenses and the Xtend-a-Slide.

Your camera MUST have front threads, either through a lens adapter with threads or built-in to the lens on the camera. The Xtend-a-Slide Plus has standard 49mm threads, so you may need stepping rings to attach from your camera thread to the close-up lenses and Xtend-a-Slide. Please refer to the Xtend-a--Slide User guide to determine if you need close-up lenses if you can't find your camera model in the camera compatibility list.

By using close-up lenses, and stepping rings, the focus point of the camera can be changed to be within the 1.5 to 5.5 inch telescoping length of the Xtend-a-Slide. The zoom of the camera can be used as well to fully frame the slide and be in focus.

The Xtend-a-Slide Plus slide and film converter represents a significant design improvement from the original Xtend-a-Slide and Xtend-a-Slide Pro units, which had fixed barrel lengths and different slide carrier designs. Incorporating a patent-pending extensible barrel and a magnetic slide/film carrier, the Xtend-a-Slide Plus provides greater flexibility for a much wider range of digital camera compatibility. The telescoping barrel (1.0 inch to 5.0 inches) overcomes the fixed barrel limit of the previous models (as well as those of competitors), which limited the amount of magnification that could be used with your camera. Some cameras, such as the Nikon 950, 990 and 995 have built-in macro capabilities which will allow the Xtend-a-Slide Mini (a shorter version of the Xtend-a-Slide Plus) to be used without any additional lenses at all, as noted in our camera compatibility and connection guide. The magnetic slide/film carrier can be continuously rotated, and moved about on the mounting ring, allowing the user to "straighten up" some otherwise great shots as well as focus in on and center certain areas of a particular shot.

Five different carriers are available for the Xtend-a-Slide, depending on your needs. 35mm slides are typically mounted in one of three different mountings. Cardboard, Plastic or Glass. The Glass mounts are thicker than the plastic or cardboard. Determine the type of application you have and then click on the link below each carrier for more informaiton. One carrier of YOUR CHOICE is included in each Xtend-a-Slide system. You must select it during the ordering process. If you have additional needs, the other carriers are available separately. PHOTOSOLVE CAN ALSO MAKE SPECIAL CARRIERS TO MEET YOUR NEEDS, SO LONG AS THE SLIDE HOLDER OR FILM SIZE DOES NOT EXCEED 2" ON THE LONGEST SIDE. CONTACT PHOTOSOLVE FOR MORE INFORMATION.

The Xtend-a-Slide shown mounted on a Kodak DC4800 camera using an Xtend-a-Lens 4800 (providing 43mm threads), a 43mm to 49mm step-up ring, and a set of 3, 49mm close-up lenses (note that the Xtend-a-Slide only has two barrels used in this camera connection to achieve the correct focus length). Other cameras will have different combinations of barrels and magnification. >
